K1 Circuit Names Mike Smith as General Manager

Former CalSpeed GM to run the first outdoor karting track by industry giant K1 Speed

WINCHESTER, CA, January 20, 2023 — K1 Circuit, the upcoming world-class outdoor karting facility from K1 Group, is proud to announce today the appointment of Mike Smith as its General Manager. 

Smith joins K1 Circuit with over 20 years of karting experience in both management and as a driver. Most recently, he served as the General Manager of CalSpeed Karting Center at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California – a position held for over 11 years. 

As GM at CalSpeed, he helped cultivate and grow the largest outdoor “Arrive and Drive” program in the world, including the longest running endurance karting race in North America: the Machismo 12 Hour. And while Smith has found success as a racer himself, he has also successfully coached students to wins and championships of their own. With this wealth of knowledge and experience, Smith will look to make K1 Circuit a must-race destination on every driver’s calendar. 

“I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity David and K1 have presented me here at K1 Circuit,” says Smith. “K1 Circuit is going to be awesome, and I think it will really elevate what karting is, and has been, in Southern California. I can’t wait for construction to finish so we can get the public here to turn some laps and see for themselves how incredible this place is.”
