Rocky Moran, Jr. speaks with Ryan of K1 Circuit

New Video: Rocky Moran Family Visit

As many of you know, Rocky Moran, Jr. designed our track here at K1 Circuit, and a short while ago, we were privileged to host a private gathering for the Moran family. Three generations of the Morans were present: Rocky Sr., Rocky, Jr., and Rocky Jr.’s son, Rocky. During the event, Rocky, Jr. and his son enjoyed some kart racing on the track, while Senior watched trackside, occasionally tinkering with the family’s karts. In our new video below, you’ll hear Rocky Moran, Jr discuss the track, his design process, and how his association with K1 Circuit. You’ll also hear from his son, who carries the name forward.

Most importantly, you’ll hear from the man we honor today, Rocky Moran, Sr. In our brief interview with him, he reflects on his 1993 Daytona triumph, what it was like to race for the “Big Eagle”, and what it means to have his name immortalized at K1 Circuit with the Rocky Moran Corner.

Rocky Moran (1950-2024)

All of us at K1 Circuit were saddened to hear about the recent passing of Rocky Moran, a highly accomplished racing driver whose résumé included stints driving for legendary racers like AJ Foyt and Dan Gurney. Notably, while driving for Gurney’s All American Racers, he secured an overall victory at the 1993 24 Hours of Daytona in the iconic AAR Toyota Eagle Mk III GTP IMSA car with co-drivers PJ Jones and Mark Dismore. This win marked the first Daytona 24 Hours triumph for AAR and Toyota.

Throughout a career spanning decades, Rocky Moran competed in a variety of sports car and open-wheel series, including Trans-Am, Can-Am, IMSA, and the CART IndyCar Series, which included three Indy 500 appearances.

However, his greatest accomplishment was as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

From all of us at K1 Circuit, we extend our deepest condolences to the Moran family.
